Secret sauce
The contrarian's guide to the future of aviation

Sometimes, the business of making a successful business gets in the way of creating new analysis. That’s this week. Our two largest events coalesce this week between the Cranky Network Awards and ISTAT Americas. Forgive us for recycling a prior analysis; it’s one of our favorites. You can read the original from May 2024, which discusses the varying ages of fleets and fleet management here.
3:35 pm Tuesday, March 4. Remember that time.
Next Tuesday afternoon, I will present at ISTAT Americas in Phoenix, Arizona. This new AeroTalks format showcases Ted-style rapid-fire presentations focused on thinking differently.
There are plenty of reasons not to attend. First, it’s only a ten-minute presentation. It’s also in the late afternoon of the last day of the conference, sandwiched between a break and an administrative update.
But if you’re in Phoenix for ISTAT, I’ll give you two reasons to attend. First, if you’ve ever been curious as to our secret sauce, this is pretty much it: How our twisted minds think about the future of aviation and how we turn that into a competitive edge. It will be a rapid-fire presentation with a ton of charts, many assumptions challenged, and a slightly uncomfortable level of transparency.
The second reason to attend: I could use the help.
For one, I need hands - as in people raising their hands at poll questions. They’re manual poll questions (get it?). Nothing is worse than asking the audience a question just as they return from break and… crickets.
This presentation is hitting differently, though. Over the next seven days, I will be on stage a total of 385 minutes. It’s these last ten on which I’m spending the majority of time and attention. It’s not nerves, Per Se, but I don’t often speak with this level of transparency.
The point is, I’m only asking for help for ten minutes - 2.5%.
Come, raise your hand (at the appropriate moments), and go about your day. I get no money or prestige from having more people there. I just want this one to go well.
